Furnace Cleaning & Energy Efficiency Tips

Tips For Carpets         Tips For Furnances & HVAC         Stain Guide

Turn it down.
When going on a trip, remember to turn down the thermostat and unplug unnecessary appliances.
Change is good.
Change or clean the air filter in your furnace regularly to keep it operating efficiently. A clogged filter makes your furnace work harder and burn more natural gas.
Help the system.
Install and use a ceiling fan as an efficient complement to air conditioning and heating.
Be highly efficient.
If you're thinking of replacing your furnace, get one that's rated 90 percent or higher in efficiency. This can reduce your natural gas consumption by up to 30 percent.
Save at night.
Use a programmable thermostat to lower your home's temperature at night (when you're warm in your bed), and raise it before you wake.
Keep it clear.
Make sure your home heating vents aren't blocked by furniture or drapes. Keep the dampers open and vacuum out dust or pet hairs from warm air registers and cold air returns. This will help your furnace run more efficiently.
Get in tune.
Not ready to replace your furnace? A tune-up and cleaning of the system can reduce natural gas consumption by 3-10 percent.
Clean air helps.
Regular furnace and duct cleaning will reduce the airborne contaminants in your home. Breathing cleaner air will improve your health.
When is good.
Furnace and duct cleaning is recommended every 6-12 months in a new or dusty area and when you have a busy home with pets & kids. Every 18-24 months is recommended in most other homes.
Do new too.
The duct system of a new home should be cleaned before the original move-in. Most often there is dust and construction debris in the ducts.
Lose the desert.
Dry winter air can drive the relative humidity level in your home to as low as 15%, which is drier than the air in most deserts. A properly installed humidifier can prevent uncomfortable breathing and damage to flooring, pianos, picture frames and cabinetry.
